ON BEAUTY…

I have a desire to create beauty through photography. I am starting to take it pretty seriously but not in a fearful or obsessive manner. I really desire to devote time to the craft.  Every time I devote some time, I never seem to regret it. I always review it, register what I learned and desire to go deeper…hoping that I not only reveal beauty but discover the beauty in me that recognizes the beauty found in the frame of my camera.

It also heightens my experience of the present presence. The sacred can only be experienced in the present. In this sentence reality= the sacred. There are false realities and fictions that can move our subjective conscience. For me the tell tale sign is that the after-effects of indulging in those kinds of thoughts and experiences always leave me with negative emotions, anger, stress, jealousy,…basically conflicted about something.

In contrast, one hour of walking and looking for beauty to capture in my camera frame leaves me peaceful, immersed in the present, grateful for what I have seen. Sometimes it is nature but it is more often for me the beauty of the built environment and people.  Gosh, so often I wonder if people know how beautiful they really are.

Images reveal

Imperfections help

Tack sharpness is nice but seems an obsession with the image instead of what the image reveals.

Too much focus on the sign instead of what the sign reveals.

Kind of like the difference between icons and idols.

ON VISION…

I can see; Art deepens what I see

I want to expose the art in my ordinary life; the extraordinary in the ordinary.

What do you see?

At the end of “Ode to a Grecian Urn” Keats writes that the urn reveals that beauty is truth and truth is beauty.  I’ve spent a lot of time reading and writing in order to discover what is true about life.  In old age I desire only to see the beauty.

MY PROCESS IS…

A sober process that respects the importance of creation.

The creation reveals the creativity that exists in the eternal ideal world now made visible and seen by others reinforcing the cycle of meaning from the visible world to the invisible world. Peace, serenity and contentment are signs that it happened and is happening in time.
